Medical transcription industry growing

KATHMANDU: Medical transcription (MT), a business process outsourcing (BPO) industry, is expanding in Nepal. There are about 25 medical transcription companies in Nepal that directly employ around 400 youths. The industry records annual turnover of around $3 million.

Transcube International Pvt Ltd, the largest medical transcription company in the country with around 100 employees, has recently started the job of coding and billing the medical prescriptions of hospitals and clinics based in US.


“Prior to this, were focused more on transcribing and submitting the medical history of patient which is in audio format,” Suyogya Man Tuladhar, president and CEO of Transcube International, said. He further added many patients in US are claiming insurance from codes prepared by Nepali MT companies. “Our employees transcribe the voice of doctors and health personnel at US based hospitals,” Tuladhar added.
